   IIT Bombay

The Challenge
Institutes in positions of excellence grow with time. The ideas and ideals on which such institutes are built evolve and change with national aspirations, national perspectives, and trends worldwide. IIT Bombay too, is one such institution and aspires to be the fountainhead of new ideas and of innovators in technology and science. They also recognise that today's students demand sophisticated, high quality interactions and content presentation. This is why they needed a state-of-the-art Convention Centre for dissemination of research through conferences and continuing education programmes.

The Solution
Actis was selected to independently design and build the requisite solutions for the IIT Bombay Victor Menezes Convention Centre consisting of the Boardroom, Conference Room, Seminar Room and Lecture Hall for holding conferences, workshops etc. Actis did a detailed study of the requirements before designing and installing the systems.
A well-equipped Boardroom provides tangible benefits by improving the environment for meetings between professors and management and reducing travel budgets. The IIT Boardroom has been connected with the outside world with a cutting-edge video conferencing facility, which includes a motorised projection screen with plasma displays on either side. This provides meeting participants with the flexibility to participate remotely, in case they are unable to be physically present.
The IIT Conference Room is set-up with a projector and a motorised screen that is used during presentations. Mics have been provided so that all participants are audible and provisions have been made for laptop connectivity. A user-friendly touch panel helps with managing these technologies with utmost ease and also helps control the lighting as per requirement.
By effectively integrating technology into the classroom to support teaching and learning, educational institutions can transform how knowledge is delivered and received. Students today need access to technologically advanced aids and tools, making the learning experience interactive and easier, allowing them to develop and create new ideas that once would be considered impossible. Actis has ingeniously developed and integrated several such technology tools for the IIT Convention Centre. The Lecture Halls and Seminar Rooms consist of projectors, motorised screens and a camera to capture the speaker on the big screen.
For the speaker, handheld / lapel mics are available, which deliver crystal clear sound through pre-amplified ceiling speakers for better sound output. Participants have been provided with mics which allow them to comfortably interact with the professor / lecturer. Every room has a touch/button panel installed to control all the equipment in the room without complications. This can be easily operated by the speaker or the participants too. One of the greatest advantages of technology in the classroom is, it opens the students up to more experiences and allows them even more opportunities to 150-seater Lecture Hall learn and implement.
Actis has integrated this 390-seater Auditorium with a long-throw projector at the end of the room, so that it doesn’t obstruct one’s view during an ongoing event. Two fixed frame screens are placed in a way that can be seen from every angle in the auditorium and advanced lighting control with preset scenes is provided for events or presentations.
A 3-camera set-up captures the audience as well as the stage area. 2 cameras have been placed on either sides of the stage and 1 camera is placed at the rear to cover the stage area.
These cameras also aid Video Conferencing. The audio system used here is very high-end, consisting of multiple internal speakers which ensure that the sound reaches till the last row. The Podium has been equipped with a touch screen that gives the end-user full control of the equipment in the Auditorium. An integrated control system is also placed in the control room that allows a user to control any audio/video related component from an easily accessible touch-panel, without interfering with the ongoing event.

The Final Impression
The state-of-the-art facilities help fulfil their vision to become a nationally prominent and internationally recognised technological university that meets the needs of a global and technologically rich society.
