Crestron integrates Microsoft Teams support for Mercury and SR systems

Crestron has extended its solution portfolio with Microsoft to incorporate Microsoft Teams integration to empower meeting spaces of every size with Intelligent Communications technology. With the newly-added Microsoft Teams software functionality for Crestron Mercury and SR (Skype Room Systems) conference system, the two companies aim to make meeting spaces a hub for collaboration and productivity.

As per the company, no upgrades are required to take advantage of the integration. Users can plug their laptop into Mercury and begin using the Microsoft Teams group chat software instantly. Additionally, continuing the collaboration with Crestron, Microsoft has announced support for the Crestron RL 2 Group Collaboration System – an enterprise-grade hardware for Skype for Business, facilitating compatibility with the Microsoft Teams platform.

Microsoft Teams is a popular platform that combines workplace chat, notes, meetings, and attachments. The powerful service integrates with Microsoft Office 365 subscription office productivity suite, including Microsoft Office and Skype. It also boasts of extensions that can integrate with non-Microsoft products.

Interestingly, Teams supports public switched telephone network (PSTN) conferencing allowing users to call phone numbers from the client. Meetings can be scheduled or created on ad-hoc basis and users visiting the channel will be able to see that a meeting is currently in progress.

This recent partnership aims to build on over a decade of the two companies working together to improve the experience of work and collaboration. According to Crestron, they aim to provide customers with the ability to migrate to Teams over time without costly changes to hardware, thereby increasing cost-effectiveness and further enhancing the life of existing communication equipment.

Both Crestron and Microsoft look at Intelligent Communications as a natural extension of their decade-long partnership to improve the effectiveness and productivity of meeting spaces. Enterprises across the globe who use Crestron and Microsoft will now benefit from the expanded set of capabilities with IC.Crestron SkypeWith these innovative capabilities, Crestron Mercury and SR conference system will not only be able to run Microsoft Teams in spaces of all sizes but also receive recently announced Teams enhancements – such as Cortana voice integration and background blurring as and when they are rolled out. For the end user, this means full Microsoft Teams functionality for rooms of all sizes, from huddle rooms and multi-purpose rooms to executive meeting rooms and large auditoriums. With this move, Crestron also aims to reinforce its commitment towards giving its users complete control over the automation of modern workplaces.
