Infocomm Report: Global AV: Spotlight India

While India is the second most populous country, the world’s largest democracy, and one of the fastest growing economies, it is also a country where the AV industry is growing…and growing very rapidly!

While the growth of the AV industry in India offers great opportunities, it also poses unique challenges. India is a very diverse country with great differences in the adoption of technology across different regions. And this includes the adoption and use of AV technology.

India AV Industry growing at over 20%

A report by Infocomm (InfoComm International’s 2014 Market Definition and Strategy Study (MDSS)) explores the growth and use of AV technology across India circa 2014. India has the fastest-growing pro-AV market in the Asia-Pacific region and the market is projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 20 percent. This would mean that the market would increase from an estimated US $3.3 billion in 2014 to about US $4.9 billion in 2016.

As the Indian market grows the demand for services is growing faster than products in its pro-AV expenditure. Services are expected to grow at a CAGR of 23 percent from 2012 to 2016, while products are slated to grow at a CAGR of 19 percent over the same period.

Emerging AV demand trends in India

In India, the mix of AV customers differs from most global trends. While globally, corporate AV represents about 30 percent of the market, in India, corporate AV is the industry’s driving force at a little over 40 percent. There is also an increasing demand for smaller huddle rooms with Lync and Skype integration and BYOD connectivity.

So, the AV market in India is growing rapidly as a whole, but with certain differences across regions. For example, customers in the south of India are more technically knowledgeable because they have more contact with and training from manufacturers and other industry participants. On the other hand clients in the north of India spend more on AV than those in the south.

Do keep these trends in mind if you are an AV product and service provider, or an AV professional. Here’s to even more rapid growth of the AV industry in India!
