All about interactive video conferencing solutions

It is well known that video conferencing saves all participants both time and money. The need for travel has reduced significantly with the various video conferencing solutions available in the market. While point-to-point as well as multi-point calls are quite common, data sharing between participants is also possible using the right video conferencing solution.

However, the next frontier when it comes to video conferencing is interactive video conferencing solutions. What this means is that when the data and content is being shared between participants, one or both can annotate, highlight, or change content in real time.

Currently, the way to do this is by installing a screen with an overlay or a touch screen monitor, which would then make it a touch display screen, similar to the glass screen on your mobile. You also need to connect your USB cable to your touch display overlay and then connect the cable to your laptop. This will let you make changes to your presentation or other content that is in your laptop, directly on your touch screen display.

This solution currently only allows one party involved in the video conferencing call to make changes and edit the content onscreen. However, another way of integrating interactivity into your video conferencing calls is by using a solution such as WebEx. The latter lets multiple participants edit, change and annotate content, without the need for connection to a laptop. However, with WebEx, only those participants on the same network can edit and annotate content.

Such interactive video conferencing solutions are currently created by integrators and not by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). However, most AV solutions providers expect that OEMs will create a solution that will allow for seamless content interactivity during video conferencing calls.

There are definite advantages to content interactivity during video conferencing calls. Some of these advantages are:

Savings related to time, money and increased productivity
Opportunities to expand the audience by providing an easy option for content interactivity
Great sharing of content across communities and locations, thereby maximising cultural diversity of views among members of the audience
Multi-way participation in reviewing and editing content, thereby accommodating different opinions at the same time

So, this is the next frontier when it comes to video conferencing. Content interactivity allows for a seamless exchange of ideas regarding the document or presentation. For more information on the latest in video conferencing content interactivity, watch this space…
